Challenges

Traditional pharma products were normally classified as OTC or prescription drugs, however in the case of Genlife the products were both to be sold through the ethical network of doctors and also by a distribution network which comprised of franchisees and other non medical dispensing units.

Another great challenge was the cost of the itself. Since most of the raw materials and capsules were directly imported from Japan & USA, the company had to ensure pilferage was almost non existent while keeping a close tab on short expiry since the product was too expensive to be disposed post expiry.

Solution

We worked on a unique solution for Genlife, wherein each bottle manufactured by Genlife was uniquely numbered and barcoded at the manufacturing level. This helped keep a strict control on the labels and packaging apart from ensuring the wastage during the manufacturing / conversion process was precisely mapped.

Once the bottle number enters the distribution chain, its movement at each step is tracked. The presence of the stock at each depot and further sales to customer is exactly mapped in the application. A hand held terminal supplied to the delivery staff which is used to check the stock at retailers and helps them keep a real time track of their expiry thereby avoiding any returns due to expiry.

The billing system is also unique and relies on mapping the exact batch number and bottle number being billed to each customer. This was quite unique in terms of what existed in the pharmaceutical space till then. The unique numbering concept gave the company complete control on inventory and stocks without having to compromise.
